  1. Those derogatory comments don't belong anywhere in public discourse. "John Write" and "the Truth" are the same illiterates who write on public bathroom walls. They deserve to be ignored.

  2. Rhonda, I know you as a decent, caring Mother and a person who cares deeply about Bolingbrook and Justice. There are always those "cyber Bullies" or "Jerks" who will try to upset the good that people like you try to accomplish. Don't just ignore them, expose them, and go on with your good works. I strongly believe in freedom of speech and the press, but not using these to spread derogatory and untruthful comments about another.

  3. This just demonstrates how morally bankrupt many of the First Party supporters truly are. They don't have the facts are their side and they know it. Which means their only recourse is to try to demean people like you who are letting the people of Bolingbrook know what is really going on in this town.

I would hope that Mayor Claar and Deputy Mayor Leroy Brown would be the first to denounce this racist, inflammatory and mean-spirited cyber-bullying attack on Rhonda - but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to do what's right.

  6. Some Advice to "The Truth"

If you don't care to ask your insurance agent or family attorney for the meaning of "libel," let us help you. "Libel" refers to "a false written and seen communication made about a person with the intention to defame that person. It is a written representation conveying an unjust and unfavorable impression prepared with the intention to damage a person's reputation."

Now that you know the meaning of "libel," please review your Number Crunchers postings to determine whether you’ve committed libel. Hint: Your false postings definitely defame Rhonda’s character with the intent to damage her reputation. So the answer to whether you libeled Rhonda is yes -- you libeled her and legal action could be taken against you for defaming of her character.

In addition, don’t think you can hide behind your "The Truth" pseudonym. Your email address can be obtained from the Bolingbrook Patch and your identity learned by subpoenaing your email server. If you now have deep pockets, they could soon become very shallow (sort of like your character) if you continue to persist with your libelous attacks. One last thing – we suggest you change you pseudonym to "The Dishonest."

  8. In May 1961, exactly fifty years ago, ugly intolerance, hatred and brutality were shown toward the Freedom Riders – a group of young blacks and whites who challenged local laws and customs that enforced segregation.

The comments posted against Rhonda show that unconscionable bigotry and prejudice still are rooted in the hearts of some. Individuals continue to have abusive or injurious behavior toward groups of people, not because of anything they have done, but simply because they are the groups they are.

All of us should search within ourselves to purge whatever elements of prejudice we have. To support us in this endeavor, I share with you a Prayer for Tolerance.

    Dear Lord, we who are
    Divided
    Unloving
    Prejudiced at times
    Inclined to misunderstanding
    Intolerant

    Make us instead
    United
    Loving
    Open to learning
    Understanding and forgiving
    Tolerant

May your Spirit be present in us as you are in all peoples.

  9. Rhonda,

Any gutless coward can post derogatory hatefilled racist comments under a pseudonym. "the truth" and "John White" are illiterate, ignorant, gutless cowards. It wouldn't surprise me if they were elected officials that you have exposed in your reporting.

We all have a first amendment right to free speech, and when we disagree with eachother, we should base our arguments on facts, not personal attacks. The derogatory comments were meant to chill your free speech rights, thereby, limiting the public's access to information. We can not be an effective citizenry if we are not informed.

Thank you for challenging your readers to support all the volunteer reporters by standing up and speaking out against these cyber bullies.

  10. To Rhonda & Volunteers. I am so shocked to see such nastiness in this community. Bolingbrook is one of the most diverse communities around. This is so shocking. Please don't let them discourage any of you. continue the good work. God bless all of you.

  12. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

Just consider the source......not worth caring about.

  13. hey, "the truth" has posted more nasty comments about rhonda on the patch? Sound the alarm. Stalker Alert!

I think this person may be kinda crazy.

  14. Rhonda, I was appalled when I read those outrageous statements. Racism is cruel and unjust. It cuts deep and lingers long in individual and community memories. And it is not a thing of the past....We all have a duty to do what we can to eradicate racism from the American landscape.

  15. There is no room for bigotry and racism in this town. One of the greatest strengths of Bolingbrook is it’s diversity. As a white child growing up in a white suburb, I was fortunate enough to have parents who won’t tolerate any bigotry in our home. We were taught to never judge someone based upon the color of their skin, their ethnic heritage, or their religion.

So, imagine how easy it was for me to accept everyone as individuals when I moved to Bolingbrook. Even though I never had daily contact with African-Americans as a child, as an adult I didn’t have to fight preconceived personal stereo types.

Now my children, having gone to school with such a diverse community, are color blind. They don’t judge people based upon their color, they judge them on the content of their character. (sound familiar?)

For someone to make those remarks in a public forum is not just offensive to Rhonda and African Americans, but it also offensive to our community as a whole.

If that is truly how you feel, you need to exit our town.

  16. Rhonda please be careful of Brain Feldt as well. I left an encouraging open note to you under the comments in "The Patch" but Brian removed it within 10 minutes because I called "The Truth" an ass. I wish he had the same conviction when those sadistic comments were left open for a full day.

Keep up the great work you do, without your passion none of the deceptive practices of our elected officials would ever be exposed.

  17. Thank you. I've decided to terminate my relationship with the BB Patch. Very unhealthy experience.

    Thanks again for your comments.

  18. I am in support of your campaign of No Cyber Bulling and do not believe in Bulling of any kind. People who exhibit this type of behavior show their insecurities. What I would like to see more from you though, is backup documentation. When statements are made, by either side, if its not an opionion, but a statement of fact, where did that information come from so others can go and check it out.

  19. Rhonda,

I hope you reconsider your decision to not post on the patch.com site.

Strictly from a marketing view, I think it can drive viewers to the number crunchers site.

Standing up for what is right has never been easy, otherwise everyone would do it. It takes conviction, integrity, and toughness, all of which you have.

Keep up the good work and please reconsider.
