I believe test scores will decline. Mr. Mitchem's decision to push thru Fabby Williams despite his background was bad judgement. At least he gets to collect a $200,000 annual salary.
I think/hope the upward trend will continue with the improved rigor.
Not sure how those students that can't handle the increased rigor will fair, but we need to depend on the teachers to make it happen.
With the budget concerns I'm worried that classroom sizes will increase and those not up to speed will be left behind. If this happens it will only increase the acheivement gap.
Time to educate the parents on what they need to do to help their children succeed. The days (last 2 decades) of expecting the teachers to do it all are over. Too many kids not enough hours.
Just think the elementary teachers only have the kids for a little over 6 hours. In that 6 hours there is lunch, recess, music, and art. Then take into consideration the specials, reading and speech, and you have about 4.5 hours in the classroom. Teach English/writing, math, science, reading, and social studies in 4.5 hours with 24-28 kids in a classroom. That is about 11 mins a day of teacher / student one on one time.
Well as being a double taxed payer I'm confused! Were the schools left in good academic shape due to Dr. Schofstall's efforts and dedication, or was it because part time Trustee Mike Lawler's foundation gets government grants..(such as Jamie McGee school)to teach children "HOW TO READ"? Let's be real.
On the serious side of things I would have to say "IT SURE AINT LAWLER"!
