Out Of Sync: The Disparity In Pay Between Government & Private Employees In Illinois

What do you think of the Illinois Policy Institute's findings?

5 comments:

  1. Maybe the private industry should start paying their employees more in compensation and benefits instead of cutting to the bone so the fat cats at the top can take home more. Maybe the private industry should stop shipping jobs overseas, be it manufacturing or white collar.

I am amazed at the number of sheeple who have fallen for the nonsense being spewed by groups like the Illinois Policy Institute and other right wing groups. Public employees are not the problem-they contribute to their pension funds faithfully every paycheck. They have never skipped or missed a payment, yet government feels it is okay to skip, miss or pay a reduced amount to the pension funds.

So much more I could write about, but I urge you to check out the We Are One website and groups that support the public employee unions to find out the other side of the story.

  2. To Anonymous:

Thanks for the comment. I will check out the "We Are One" website. It's important that we reflect a variety point of views on the site.

    Have a great weekend.

  3. Unlike the public sector, the private sector has to risk their money to build their business.

The government just continues to raise my taxes due to their incompetence/graft/(insert other).

Not blaming the govt workers, just the politicians who robbed the pension funds to finance their pet projects (insert here-2 fountains on 53 and Briarcliff) similar to what the Fed govt did with social security.

When will the "sheeple" wake up and realize what is happening. If our govt and their BIG spending and debt isn't stopped we will end up like England and their 80% tax brackets.

As for our current president who wants to raise taxes while in a recession, just have him ask President Hoover how that worked for him. It's called a depression.

  4. To History Buff, I think you might be a little out of touch with your history. If we were having this discussion in 1976 I would say as the Brits do very often "that you are spot on". Unfortunately things have changed. I have just finished a two year assignment in London and although my federal taxes are certainly a lot lower here, with state tax, FICA and our extortionate property taxes (my property tax bill is now $11,800 a year versus $3,200 in London),38% of my direct income goes to taxation now I am back in the USA versus 33% in London.

Now admittedly they do pay 20% excise tax on all consumable purchases versus the 11% I pay now in Bolingbrook, but I would rather have the income for discretionary spending rather than Government taxation.

  5. I stand corrected, as you have first hand experience with the Brits.

Add up sales tax, cigarette taxs, liquor taxs, gas tax, tolls, all the added taxes on your utility/cell/comcast bills, Real estate taxes, income (Fed & state)taxes, social security and all the user fees (aka taxes)....bet if you added all that up your probably in the 60% + of your income paid to the govt.

But as a socialistic society the Brits pay a lot of money to support those who live off the govt.

How's their health care system? Been reading a lot of scary stories about it lately.
