We eat out alot but we purposely choose to eat out at restaurants outside of Bolingbrook..the taxes are one reason and it is easy to dine and shop up and down 75th Street. I will remember to avoid Naperville also. Thanks for your info.
The best way to look at this is to compare the total Bill at the three Francesca's. A Family of four meal at $100 would cost you $110.13 at the Bolingbrook promenade, $108.32 in the 95th/route 59 location and $109.94 in D/T Naperville. So Bolingbrook is slightly more expensive. If you like Italian however then a $100 meal at Clara's on route 53 would only cost you $107.25.
The real killer is alcohol.
If you add a bottle of wine and some drinks e.g $75 then your $175 meal becomes #189.43 on Route 59, $192.28 in D/T Naperville, but $196.39 at the Promenade.
Taxes are so excessive in Bolingbrook. The administration might clean up on the out of town visitors, but residents are aware of this and it pays to eat elsewhere.
I agree, I drive out of town to eat whenever I can. Instead of helping local businesses, they have hurt it. It would benefit the Mayor to stop taxing so high, so that these areas can see more business from locals and supply locals more jobs. It would seem that one mil a year is stopping that and is a bad decision.
That's right, and add the gasoline tax the Village charges as well. Maybe the smart thing to do is look for cheaper gas and food OUTSIDE OF BOLINGBROOK!
Naperville is 4 cents a gallon, Downers Grove is 2.5 cents and Lisle is Zero. Pays to fill up on Route 53. I realize many of you will say its penny's but with four cars in my household we save $234 in the gas tax and $225 in sales tax each year by using the Lisle gas stations and not Bolingbrook and we drive that way anyway.
Everything you buy in town is taxed higher than neighboring communities. I even hear the Mayor is considering charging a toll to enter town when you cross the new Kings Road Bridge (LOL)

ReplyDeleteSame with my family. But don't avoid all of Naperville. Downtown Naperville is more expensive because of the public garage.

ReplyDeleteUgggh - great example, Mike E.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're doing all of this driving, keep in mind that you're' spending close to $4 a gallon on gas

ReplyDeleteSorry, it's the truth.
Does anyone know how much the Village is taxing us for motor fuel? How do we compare to other communities?
ReplyDeleteGood morning Laura,
ReplyDeleteThe VOB's tax rate for gasoline is 5 cents per gallon.
Thanks for submitting a question.
