School Board Set To Vote On New 90/10 Grading Policy

Are you in support (or against) the policy?

How should the school board vote, on Sept. 22?

What are the pros and cons?

  1. I wonder if the school board is qualified to vote on this 90/10 policy. Frankly..I'd like to see a longer school day with more learning opportunities..maybe even study halls and other activities. Starting at 7:30 a.m. and out at 2 p.m. is too short a school day! I don't think we are getting our money's worth from our teachers. Mayor Emanuel has it right...a longer school day will benefit our students. It's time for bold moves..not tweaking the system. Also, our administrators and teachers should be paid for results. I agree with Numbercrunchers..cut the administrative fat.

  2. The school board only approves what the administration brings to them. the administration will be the ones going down if this fails.

A longer school day is a good idea, except that it will cost more money. With a $ 7 million deficit the school board and administration should be looking for places to cut expenses.

  3. The comparison to what Rahm is trying to do with CPS does not apply here.
Our kids already attend 6.5 hours a day.
The 'average' CPS school day is 5.5 hours a day.

That said, I do not support the 90/10.
Some people just don't test well.
There are no retakes in college or in life.
