Chicago & Bolingbrook Politicians Use Influence to Fund "Pet" Charities

The Chicago Tribune published an explosive article detailing the millions of dollars used to fund former first lady, Maggie Daley's "pet" charity.

The Number Crunchers have published similar articles on the hundreds of thousands in tax dollars used to fund local politicians "pet" charities.

Looks as if it's common practice for politicians to use their influence to fund "pet" charities.

Take a moment to read the article, and share your comments.

  1. All five charities have a very positive influence and impact on the Bolingbrook community and Will County. These organizations help children and families in need.

What great things have you done to help out the community? Why are you so jealous of the people who run these organizations?

Are you against helping teens, children and families who are having trouble or struggling? What is wrong with you?

  2. Why do you think it is appropriate to fund these pet charities (politically and family connected) with my tax dollars? It's wrong in Chicago and it's wrong in Bolingbrook. If these charities do so much good why can't they make it without our tax dollars. They should be able to function from private sources not DuPage Township tax funds and Village of Bolingbrook tax dollars. I can't believe that Lindsay's H2O would have survived without Daddy's help and influence. We need to wean these charities off the public trough. These charities are the Claar family and friends' business.

It isn’t a question of whether or not these charities make a positive impact in the village. The question is….who should be making the decision of which charities should receive MY HARD EARNED MONEY?

I donate a lot of money to charities, but they are the charities I want to support with my money. Using my tax dollars to support the family and friends running these charities is WRONG.

I pay taxes to provide police, fire, and infrastructure not to support someone else’s favorite charity run by their family.

  4. Anonymous 7:30 p.m. if you think these so called "charities" are so wonderful--by all means spend YOUR money on them, not MINE. I give MY money to the REAL VALID charities of MY OWN choosing and I do NOT go take YOUR money out of YOUR wallet to give to my charities.

  5. Anonymous at 7-30PM. I pay property taxes not charity taxes to Will County every June and September. I also donate 20% of my net income to various local charities. Elected officials should not spend money donating to their pet charities with my property tax money. if you like the charities they donate to then use you own money and stop being so obtuse.
