Health Care Is Topic of Local Meeting

County board members host panel discussion for residents to learn about H.B. 311, the Illinois Universal Health Care Act.

Over 75 residents attended the Saturday morning meeting, and shared stories about the troubles with the current healthcare system.

One idea discussed is House Bill 311, sponsored by Rep. Mary Flowers
of Chicago. This legislation seeks to create a single payer system in the state of Illinois.

  1. Do you plan on hosting more meetings? I would like to attend.

  2. I would like to see the numbers. The cost of healthcare has been accelerating and Medicare and Medicaid costs are extremely out of control. Adding another single payor government run health program is not the answer. See if you like to deal with a government bureaucrat instead of an insurance company. At least the insurance company has to compete for business.

  3. I don't believe that Jackie Traynere told both sides of this issue in her report. The Heartland Institute is a conservative/liberterian think tank. I don't believe they would be supportive of a single payor system. If you check out their website there is much posted critical of Obamacare. Jackie Traynere seems to favor big government solutions for every problem.
