According to the Chicago Tribune, Mayor Schmidt has issued 14 vetoes in the past 2 1/2 years, which is almost unheard of for suburban mayors.

First, Park Ridge Mayor David Schmidt vetoed money for community groups. Then, he vetoed the city manager's contract -twice. On a roll, he vetoed the firefighters contract and the entire city budget.

Mayor Schmidt is the kind of Mayor more communities should have. I respect him for his guts and doing the right thing. If we had more Mayor';s like him it would be a "better world." Oh, some would say "what about the meals on wheels, the fire fighters and community charities?" Since when are these funded by taxpayer monies? Fire fighters get paid, why should the taxpayer's fork over again? Bull!
