  3. I would have to say the outsourcing is a good deal for the school. To save about $850,000 per year is worth it and it sounds like it should be safe and equal to the services we now get. I hope this amounts to a savings for us taxpayers!

  4. If the district outsources the transportation and continues to purchase the fuel, will First student be reimbursing the district for the purchased fuel?

If not what controls are in place (and who will police them) to keep First student from wasting fuel or using fuel for other accounts?

Poor maintenance on the buses will directly affect the gas mileage of the buses, resulting in the use of more fuel - which the district will be purchasing.

First Student will hire the "qualified" drivers. Who determines what "qualified" is?

After the first year, First student can dump all the old VVSD drivers and hire new drivers for less pay.

What is being done with the $ 7,000,000 bus barn? Is First student going to purchase this facility from the district? If not how much are they going to pay for the use of it, or what will the district do with this piece of property that is worth less money (just like our homes) then it was 3 years ago? Not the time to sell considering we are in a down market and would lose money.

3rd party companies make the majority of their revenue off of LOWER WAGES. Why doesn't the district talk to the union and renegotiate or create a different pay scale for any new drivers that are hired?

What provisions are in the contract that will allow VVSD to get out of this contract? Written notice and 90 days? What happens if First student doesn't perform to the districts expectations? Who is going to set the expectations? Will there be penalties, and if so who will be responsible for monitoring the bus companies performance?

This isn't a truck company delivering produce, this is a bus company transporting children.

  5. Why is transportation to parochial schools being provided by a public school district?

How much do we spend on transportation for students going to St Dominic and St Andrew schools?

  6. This school district was using outside bus services in the 60's and 70's. I thought it was great. What happened to the thinking of let's by the cow instead of the steaks?. When I was a child riding these busses; The drivers were mothers of some of our friends. The children were close to the bus driver. Go third party and lets see what you may get....Friendly faces I hope.

Just to remind every one, there are also companies out there that will manage the school district too..............Then we wouldn't have to pay big salaries and pensions. Imagine what the tax payers could save then. Keep the busses get rid of all the appointed political bull(you know what) sitting in those puffy chairs!
