  1. Great article. My family rarely dine out. We actually cook a lot on the grill. Now that it's cold, I use the slow cooker to make big meals. It's definately much cheaper to eat in.

  2. We do eat out alot..but watch for the best "deals" and also we try to eat healthy. It is easier to eat healthy at home. We limit fat, salt and sugar to be more healthy..but it is difficult when we eat out. I will keep in mind the advantage of eating outside of Bolingbrook. We do eat mostly in Woodridge when we eat out. I highly recommend Gong Ho for chinese food. They have a great lunch special.

  3. What are the dining tax rates in Woodridge and Naperville?

  4. Woodridge is 7.75%,Naperville is 8.25% (but if you eat downtown Naperville its an additional 1.5%. This compares to Bolingbrook of 10.5% for food but Bolingbrook charges 14.5% for beverages. So if you want wine with dinner, prepare to pay a massive $2.90 in taxes on a $20 bottle.

  5. Mike,
    I bought a beverage at McDonald's and was charged $1.10 (10%).

AND? No matter the spin, it cost more to eat in Bolingbrook than anywhere else. Whether it's quoted as 10% or 10.5%.

    What's your point?

MIKE E: Thanks for your research. We appreciate your input.

  7. Mike said "This compares to Bolingbrook of 10.5% for food but Bolingbrook charges 14.5% for beverages. "

This point is the statement is wrong. A beverage at McDonalds is NOT taxed at 14.5%.

(don't mean to speak for Mike E)

It varies depending on whether you buy an alcoholic beverage, which are taxed differently.
Even still, families who eat in Bolingbrook will end up paying more than surrounding communities. Maybe Claar and the V-Board should consider eliminating the additional restaurant tax charged to patrons.

It's nothing more than a penalty tax.

    Thanks for your input.

  9. Rhonda..Thanks for the info. Bolingbrook Trustees and Roger Claar do not realize that taxes have an adverse effect on purchases. They are constantly sniffing around for more revenue to fund their excessive spending. I will continue to spend more outside of Bolingbrook.

  10. Ok sorry to all, what I should have said was Liquor instead of Beverages. I am old school and think a Beverage is liquor. To me what McDonalds sells is soda. I am wrong and can be humbled.

  11. What we should look at is, if you are going to buy a soda (Beverage) at McDonalds in Bolingbrook then the fact that you pay $1.10 on a 99 cent drink is probably no big deal as the cost of the same drink in Woodridge will be $1.07. However if you want to take your extended family out for a weekend meal and the food cost is $200 and the Liquor cost is $100 then you will pay $23 in taxes eating in Woodridge and $35.50 in Bolingbrook. This is why I feel Bolingbrook loses out. Now if you go to Seven Bridges it will cost you even less!!!!

  12. Mike E, don't forget that on top of the additional tax there is more TIP money. The taxes raise the total bill that everyone should be paying their tip on.

  13. I think that we should boycott ALL restaurants until the employers pay their employees a decent salary instead of passing the surcharge off on the customers in the form of a tip.

  14. Instead of boycotting Bolingbrook restaurants, you should be patronizing them, you morons! You are foolish if you think, that by driving to Woodridge or Naperville to eat you are going to save money. The cost of fuel will more than make up for your childish behavior.

Since you dislike Bolingbrook so much, why don't you just move and leave us alone.

Have you ever seen the lines at Portillo's or Buona Beef? How about having to wait for a table at Family Square or Eggs Inc?

Shop and Buy in Bolingbrook! Eat in Bolingbrook!
